David Reed

David Reed was born in 1946 in San Diego, California, and lives and works in New York. Reed has long been interested in reworking and reimagining the process of painting. His paintings are defined by fluid marks that emphasize the materiality of paint and subtle shifts of color within a deliberately flattened pictorial space. Reed works within a language of abstraction while alluding to Minimalist and filmic techniques that have influenced the practice since 1966 when he arrived in New York and began studying at the New York Studio School.
